Admissions & Fees

Hampstead Hill School is a non-selective environment and as such children are not required to sit a competitive assessment to join us. We are a school which prepares children for competitive entry into private day schools in London and in some circumstances elsewhere. This means that children will be introduced to an academic life earlier than in some other schools and that the academic work, particularly in Years 1 and 2, is taught at an accelerated pace in order to enable children to reach the standards required by the schools they are entering for.

Hampstead Hill School Admissions

Welcome to the Admissions page of Hampstead Hill School.

As a beacon of educational excellence our primary aim is to nurture, educate and prepare your children for a promising future.

We are an inclusive school and children with disabilities and SEN requirements are welcomed. It is always our intention to ensure that all children enjoy their learning experience.

Parents are encouraged to register as early as possible by completing the Admission Form on the school website. An acknowledgment of receipt will be sent by the School Co-ordinator but please note that this is not an automated process so the response may take a few days. The main entry point is September each year and we start the process of offering in the preceding January. There are sometimes occasional places at other points in the year.

We are also delighted to introduce the newest progression in our educational journey, the Hampstead Hill Prep branch.

A Non-Selective Approach to Admissions at Hampstead Hill

Hampstead Hill School takes pride in its inclusive and non-selective approach to admissions:

  • Children are not required to undertake a competitive assessment to join us.
  • Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for competitive entry into esteemed private day schools, mainly in London but on occasion in other locations.
  • The academic work, especially in Years 1 and 2, is delivered at an accelerated pace to enable children to attain the standards demanded by the schools they aspire to join – a consistent educational ethos will continue into Hampstead Hill’s Prep branch.

While we warmly welcome children with disabilities and SEN requirements, it is crucial to understand that our focused academic environment might not be suitable for every child, particularly in the older year groups.

Entry Points and Availability

Children are encouraged to join Hampstead Hill School in any year group if a place is available. We have formal and non-selective primary entry points at ages 2+, 4+ and 7+. Beyond these stages occasional places may arise within different year groups.

The main admission window commences in September each year, with offers being extended the preceding January. Nevertheless, opportunities might present themselves at various points in the academic year.

Early Years

(2yrs – 3yrs): This is our most substantial entry point, offering around 90 places annually. There are four separate lists to ensure that children born in the Summer months have an opportunity to join us.

Pre-Reception

(3yrs – 4yrs): Limited occasional places may become available.

Reception 4+

On average, between 10 and 20 places become available annually.

Years 1 & 2

Limited occasional places may arise.

7+

Please see the section below for entry at 7+ into our Prep School.

Occasional Places

Limited places do become available across all year groups. Please complete our application form to state your intentions to join Hampstead Hill informing us of the Year Group and desired start date. We offer places on a first-come, first-served basis.

Joining Hampstead Hill’s Prep Branch at 7+

The inclusion of Hampstead Hill’s Prep branch further enriches our commitment to academic excellence. Here is our admissions policy for the Prep Branch:

  1. Priority to Current Pupils: Our existing Hampstead Hill pupils are at the forefront, with an expedited pathway to our Prep branch. To secure a place, families are required to pay a 50% termly fee deposit.
  2. February Offers: Parents can include Hampstead Hill’s Prep on their school selection lists, with final confirmations in February, in line with all 7+ offers.
  3. Open Admissions for 7+: Following the internal February offers, any remaining places are open to children from other schools wishing to join Hampstead Hill’s Prep at 7+.

Application Process

  1. Registration: Parents are encouraged to register at the earliest opportunity via the Admission Form on our website. Each application receives an acknowledgement from the School Co-ordinator. As this process is not automated responses might require a few days.
  2. Viewing the School: We believe in offering parents a comprehensive perspective of our school. Rather than hosting open days, we arrange personalised tours in smaller groups. Parents will always be given an opportunity to view the school before making a decision on an offered place. We choose to show families around in small groups, rather than have open days so that parents may experience a more personalised visit. Each entry is dealt with in order of application, and as a general rule, parents should not expect to see the school before their child is at least one year old.
  3. Wait Lists and Priority: Besides siblings and the children of former pupils who receive priority, placements are ascertained by wait lists corresponding to each intake and year group.
