Our intention is to establish an English curriculum that links directly to the core values of the school: Curiosity, Conservation, Community, Respect and Kindness.
We intend to foster a culture of reading and writing for pleasure across the school through outstanding planning centered around high-quality texts which reflect the values of the school. The children are exposed to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts including newspapers, letters, diary entries and instructional texts to support their creative writing. English lessons focus on key grammar and punctuation expectations, enabling children to have clear guidance and structure within their writing.
Handwriting is core part of our English curriculum and children are taught to use the correct pencil grip and handwriting posture in isolated handwriting lessons as well as throughout all other academic lessons.
We provide research led and focused pedagogical approach with reflective interventions delivered across the school to aid progress. We will establish high expectations with the aim for all children to reach “Greater Depth” understanding in Reading and Writing by the end of their time at HHS.
